What changes
What changes when a GLB becomes an OBJ
OBJ is older and simpler than glTF. This is how your model is carried over.
One file becomes a folder
A GLB packs everything into one file. An OBJ keeps the mesh in the .obj, the materials in an .mtl and each texture as its own image, so you get a ZIP — unzip it and keep the files together.
Textures as PNG
glTF often stores textures as WebP, which OBJ apps don't read. Every texture is saved again as PNG, pixel for pixel.
PBR, the OBJ way
MTL is older than PBR. The colour texture comes through everywhere; metal, roughness and normal maps have no agreed place in MTL, so apps read them differently. For full PBR, keep the GLB or use FBX.
Same mesh, Y-up
Triangles, UVs and normals are kept, Y-up like the GLB. Faces the GLB shows from both sides get a second, turned copy, because OBJ has no double-sided setting.
How it works
GLB to OBJ in three steps
- 1
Drop your GLB
Up to 50 MB. It opens in 3D right away, before anything is uploaded.
- 2
Sign in free
OBJ with textures is made on our servers, so it needs a free Wandy3D account.
- 3
Download the ZIP
The conversion takes a minute or two, and the ZIP downloads by itself.
Your file stays yours
- GLB, STL, OBJ or 3MF, up to 50 MB and 2 million triangles.
- STL, 3MF and GLB (and OBJ from an STL or 3MF) are made in your browser — the file never leaves your device. For OBJ from a GLB, USDZ and FBX it is stored privately and deleted after 29 days.
- Never used to train AI, never shown to anyone, never added to the community.
- Delete an upload any time with one click — or together with your account.
